EDW MARTINEZ

 

EDW MARTINEZ, has been creating both two and three-dimensional art for four decades. While primarily known for his multi-media prints/monotypes and site situated sculptural installations, he returned to working with clay five years ago after a thirty year hiatus. He has participated in more than two hundred group and one person exhibitions at the regional, national and international level, including a traveling print exhibit in all fifty US states. His art is in numerous private, corporate and public collections.

Martinez has printed professionally at the Tamarind Institute (NM), Kala Institute (CA) Instituto de Artes Graficas de Oaxaca ( Mexico), Slade School of Art and Camden Art Center (both in London). He has been an artist in resident at the Kimmel Hardin Nelson Art Center, Jentel Foundation, and the McNamara Foundation. He attended Illinois Wesleyan University and is a graduate of the University of Nevada and the University of Iowa’s renowned Iowa Print Group.

Martinez is recipient of the Nevada’s Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts

Based in Nevada’s historic silver mining community of Virginia City, Martinez, is owner-master printer of Deep Etch Press, with seasonal studios in both Graeagle-Mohawk, CA, and Las Vegas, NV.

When not in the studio, he has been known to “recharge” his creative batteries traveling throughout the western US, accompanied by wife-partner, Kay, and their faithless Border Collie, Bella, towing a vintage Airstream trailer, loaded with drawing supplies, several old digital cameras, and a new Sage fly fishing rod.
